Yachting and Boating in Greece.
Greece is one of the best places for boating in Europe – or probably all over the world. Its waters are rich with various islands, big and small, featuring beautiful landscapes and stunning views.
The country is washed by the Aegean Sea in the east, the Ionic see in the west, the Mediterranean and the Sea of Crete in the south. The Aegean Sea is abundant in desert islands, and their picturesque coves are a perfect hideaway when you feel tired of civilization. You can easily navigate between those islands and sail in any direction you choose. The Ionic Islands are covered with lavish greenery, and they are best suited for peace and rest. Sailing boats are available for sale, or you may choose to hire it. Both options give you a good opportunity to choose the ways you want to travel. You may have your breakfast in one island and your dinner, in some other. Sea port system is well developed, and you don’t have to worry about your fuel, water and food supplies.
Every island you visit will surprise you with its unique beauty and its original spirit. If you decide to take a longer stay in some island, you’ll have a good chance to enjoy its hospitality, and the friendly locals will happily tell you its history and its myths. But of course it may happen so that you remember this history since your school days.
Greece has 300 sunny days a year; its Mediterranean climate is mild and healthy. Storms are unlikely in summer time, but you may experience heavy winds which often change their direction due to the great number of rocky islands.
Most people believe that boating is not something they can afford. That is not quite so, because a sailing boat freight shared by a group of good friends will not cost you more than you’d pay for a hotel. So why not choose the freedom of a sailing boat or a good chance to explore the vast sea waters with a motor boat? The price is almost the same. Besides, you can always take a couple of lessons before you leave the shore.

Proposed proven cost of a pleasure boat maintenance, 2013.
Annual cost of a private pleasure boat maintenance owned by a taxpayer or his/her spouse is calculated based on harbor dues, insurance premiums, fuel, service and factoring costs as well as the boat’s total lengths. It is calculated the following way:
- Open motor boats, speed and regular motor boats, total length not exceeding 5 (Five) meters: 4000 (Four thousand) Euro. This amount is increased for longer boats by 2000 (Two thousands) Euro per each meter of its lengths exceeding the 5 meters.
- Covered sailing boats or motor boats (with cabins), length not exceeding 7 (Seven) meters, 12 000 (Twelve thousand) Euro; length 7 to 10 (Seven to Ten) meters: the amount is increased by 3000 (Three thousand) Euro per each extra meter; total length 10-12 (Ten to Twelve) meters: the amount is increased by 7500 (Seven thousand five hundred) Euro per each extra meter; total length 12-15 (Twelve to Fifteen) meters, the amount is increased by 15000 (Fifteen thousand) Euro per each extra meter of its length; total length 15-18 (Fifteen to Eighteen) meters, the amount is increased by 22500 (Twenty two thousand five hundred) Euro per each extra meter; total length 18-22, the amount is increased by 30000 (Thirty thousand) Euro per each extra meter of its total length, and total length above 22 (Twenty two) meters, the amount is increased by 50000 (Fifty thousand) Euro per each extra meter of its total length.
If the boat length is a fractional number, the next whole number is used for calculation.
