Smart buses and bus stops that will inform passengers about how long they have to wait for their rides are due to become available in Athens from February after the Athens Urban Transport Organization (OASA) signed the agreement for the installation of a telematic system this week.

Installation work is due to begin this month, with 1,750 buses, 250 trolley buses and 1,000 stops set to be connected to the system by January 2016.

Passengers will be able to track buses, see their average speed and find out their estimated arrival time via their computers or mobile phones.

Passengers waiting at the stops will also be informed of when the next bus or trolley bus is due to arrive.
