Greek Monastery Reopens After 600 Years

The last time that the Monastery of the Three Hierarchs held a mass in Lousoudi Kapetanion in Crete, was 600 years ago.

However, the bells of the Monastery rung once again on Wednesday, three days after Easter, when the Monastery opened its doors.

The Monastery of the Three Hierarchs was founded in the 14th century, by Iosif Filafris, an orthodox monk who escaped in Asterousia. The monastery was being restored for the past two years by expenses from the Monastery of Koudouma. The supervision of the excavation was conducted by the Archeological Sites Service as well the Architecht Heracles Piryanakis, who made Wednesday’s event public.
