Greece #1 Holiday Destination for Austrians in 2017

Austrians chose Greece as their number one place for holidays for medium distance destinations in 2017, while bookings for trips abroad increased by 30%, according to TUI.

Austria‘s biggest tour operator announced figures for the summer of 2017 in a press conference in Vienna. According to TUI CEO Lisa Wedding, Greece is the top choice for Austrians, as reservations show. Spain and Italy follow, with Croatia and Egypt completing the first five destinations. Greece was also the number one destination for Austrians in 2016.

Wedding said that Austrians generally prefer Crete, Corfu and Rhodes. However, Kos may have already doubled the total bookings over last year. Last week, flight bookings for the four islands increased by 15%, while hotel bookings for Crete, Rhodes and Kos went up 40%.

Also, Wedding noted, there is a new trend for smaller islands like Karpathos, Zakynthos, Lefkada and Kefalonia.

New charter flights have been added for Greece as well. Specifically, a new route to Chania is added from the Linz airport, while the Salzburg airport will introduce new flights to Zakynthos and Thessaloniki. Klagenfurt airport will offer flights to Lefkada and Thessaloniki as well.
