One of Oldest Schools in Greece to be Restored

The tender for the restoration of one of the oldest schools in Greece was completed; works will begin soon in the school that was built in 1880 on Hydra.

The school on Hydra started operating as an elementary school in 1880 and remained so for over a century. It is classified as a monument, therefore its restoration requires time-consuming processes and coordination, all subject to the unique, traditional architecture of the island.

The project includes repair and maintenance work, in order to remain suitable and safe for use. Some serious problems need to be resolved, such as extensive cracking of mortar, which allows water to seep into the walls.
