Greece’s Top Court Annuls Government’s Decisions

State, Greece’s supreme administrative court, on Monday threw out a Joint Ministerial Decision (JMD) prescribing the content of wealth and assets declarations as invalid.

These declarations (“pothen esches”) are submitted by civil servants and other professionals.

The court found that the JMD, signed by Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos and Alternate Justice Minister Dimitris Papangelopoulos, was invalid for all classes of individuals required to submit a wealth and assets declaration, not just for judges.

The issue had caused a divide between the government and the judges’ union after Justice Minister Stavros Kontonis accused the judges last week of refusing to declare their wealth and assets.
