Next Facebook or Google Could Come from Greece, Says Apple Icon

The next Facebook or Google could well be created in countries in economic crisis, such as Greece, Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple has said.

“Intelligent people are everywhere and the tools for software development are also available everywhere, so of course the next company to create something in the communication sector, capable of conquering the world if it’s good, could be founded in countries such as Greece,” Wozniak said.

In Tuesday’s interview with Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA), Wozniak said he was not afraid of the rapid progress in artificial intelligence, in contrast with fears he had expressed in the recent past, aligning with the positions of the late Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX.

He said that challenges and problems, expected to arise in the next decade in relations between technology and society might even need decades to be fixed — although “the world is wide open to correcting them”.

Wozniak said that in an era of scandals, such as the Cambridge Analytica and Facebook case, the situation looks more and more like a “rooting for your home team” kind of game.
