Greek Rental Property Tax Platform to Go Online by End-August

An electronic tax platform for registering short-term rentals like AirBnB will be up and running by the end of August, the governor of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) Giorgos Pitsilis said on Friday.

In comments at an Antenna TV news report, Pitsilis called on taxpayers to fulfill their tax obligations and said that AADE will continue its inspections at high-traffic tourist areas, with 55,000 such inspections scheduled for all of 2018.

“The platform for short-term rentals will open very soon; notwithstanding any unforeseen events, the platform will have gone live by the end of the month,” he said.

Pitsilis added that state campaign “Apodeixi, please” asking for receipts at sales points was “a way of communicating to visitors, who total nearly 30 million people in recent years, that (…) the use of plastic in purchases and the receipts help us collect revenues and helps the country receive the taxes already included in the price of things they consume.”

Meanwhile, the tax office will post the 2018 ENFIA property tax bills for property owners by the end of August, it has been confirmed.

AADE said that property owners will be able to pay the tax one off or make five monthly payments, running from September to January.
