Tsipras and Chinese Vice Premier Discuss Trade Cooperation in Athens

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras met the visiting Chinese Vice Premier Ma Kai on Friday with the two sides vowing to strengthen their cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative.

Tsipras congratulated the success of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China held in October. He said Greece fully supports the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative and wishes to strengthen its cooperation with China in all fields.

The Greek prime minister welcomed more Chinese enterprises to Greece for economic, trade and investment cooperation.

Ma said the mutual trust between the two countries continues to deepen, and bilateral cooperation yields fruitful results. He added that the two countries support each other on key issues, and China-Greece comprehensive strategic partnership maintains a good momentum of development.

The vice premier said China is willing to enhance the high-level exchanges and integration of the Belt and Road Initiative with Greece’s development strategy.

He said the two countries should join hands to push forward the cooperation in energy, transportation, telecommunications, culture and other key sectors under the 2017-2019 Greece-China Action Plan.

During his stay in Greece, Vice Premier Ma held talks with Greek Deputy Prime Minister Yiannis Dragasakis and inspected China COSCO Shipping Piraeus Port project.
